~Happy Birthday to Mom and Betty White! Both wonderful ladies turned 91 today. Our mom brought us 4 girls up to be independent women, and we thank her for that. Curls and I don’t ever recall being told we couldn’t do something because we were “girls” or to “act more lady-like”. We were encouraged to explore what interested us. Oh, the adventures we had. Thanks mom! Look how cute we are in the aprons you made for us as birthday gifts. The aprons were made from a pattern in Carol taylor Oates’ More Retro Aprons. Even in her 90′s mom loves to sew! Much to our dismay, she no longer has any interest in knitting. Just think of the stash busting we could have her do!
When mom was born, the amendment for Women’s vote has just been passed a few months before, commercial air flight was just in it’s infancy, and there wasn’t and television or computers. It was definitely not a techno-world. Now she’s on the computer, emailing and has a cell phone. The world changed and she didn’t let it leave her behind.
To give you an idea of the US when they were born:
